Oro Amargo, directed by Juan Francisco Olea and starring Katalina Sánchez alongside Francisco Melo, has reached more than 60 cinemas across Germany.

On August 20, Berlin’s historic Passage Cinema hosted the film’s premiere, distributed by JIP Film & Verleih. Katalina Sánchez, our lead actress, traveled from Santiago to attend the event, engage with audiences, and represent the creative team.

The evening brought together Julian Gerchow, co-producer with Plotlessfilm; Magdalena Atria, Chile’s ambassador to Germany; and Drina Bascón-Scheffler from ProChile Germany, whose support was key to the project’s international reach.

The thriller, which tells the story of a father and daughter who discover a gold vein in the middle of the desert, continued its journey at Cinema Kino in Frankfurt, with Gala Montero attending on behalf of the Chilean Consulate. That same night, the film was also screened at the Hafen 2 cultural center in Offenbach, supported by the Bundesverband Jugend und Film (BJF) and the Frauen Helfen Frauen Offenbach association.

Cologne’s Odeon Kino hosted the final premiere of the tour, where Katalina Sánchez shared with audiences insights about filming in the desert and developing her character: Carola, a young girl who suddenly finds herself alone in front of the miners and the vastness of the desert.

From Berlin to northern Chile, from a secret gold vein to German screens, Oro Amargo gathered over 3,000 viewers across the country in its first week of screenings. Its journey is a reminder that stories born in remote territories can also find their place in the international conversation.
